We have put a lot of thought into what makes the perfect wedding ceilidh. However, the most important thing is that it's tailored exactly to the happy couples' specifications and the music is a reflection of their style and tastes.
The below is our top-tips and run through of what we offer, developed over the past 17 years.

THE FIRST DANCE:

We offer a few different options if the couple are keen on a first dance:
  • If the happy couple have song they would like to be played, we can either put this on from an iPod through our PA, or (if given notice!) we are happy making a folk arrangement of the song and performing this live. This has been incredibly popular and we receive lovely feedback on how we adopt certain songs to match our style. We've certainly had some great (and rather challenging) requests! Like this
  • A more traditional option is the Grand March. This sees the bride and groom marching round the hall, soon followed by guests and their partners. We are always happy explaining this dance to avoid any ceilidh-car-crashes!
  • Alternatively, we can simply get straight into the ceilidh. If this is the preference we opt to go for the crowd favourite - the Gay Gordon's

THE CEILIDH:

  • Our ceilidh is a blend of the traditional and the not-so-traditional. Expect all the crowd favourite dances such as the Dashing White Sergeant, Strip the Willow, and Virginia Reel. Just be prepared to find yourself ceilidh dancing to a mixture of Scottish folk music and then ACDC and Fleetwood Mac!
  • For the ceilidh-novices, we call each and every dance, giving clear step-by-step instructions and if things go pear shaped we're quick to jump on the floor and give demonstrations. We prefer to call all dances so the ceilidh is completely inclusive for all the guests
  • If a more traditional ceilidh is preferred, we are happy to scale down the ACDC and scale up the Dougie Maclean. Our band are deeply rooted in the Scottish folk scene and are happy to offer whatever blend the night requires. Our full setlist can be found here
  • As the evening draws to an end, we love rounding off a great ceilidh with the Orcadian Strip the Willow (not only because two of the band are Orcadians). After the marathon dance is done, we welcome everyone to stay on the floor to finish with the Auld Lang Sang, then onto a few covers if the B&G wish!

THE LITTLE THINGS:

  • We supply professional PA and lighting equipment to support a wide range of venue sizes. Over the years we have invested in high quality gear ensuring it packs the necessary punch but doesn't overpower guests ability to chat!
  • Our stage setup is very eloquent and minimal - see for yourself
  • As much as we love live music, we always welcome the B&G putting together a Spotify/iPhone playlist to have on during the evening
  • We are flexible and work to the plan for the night - you let us know timings if there is a 2nd supper etc, and we can plan our sets so folk can dance but also recharge
  • Our three piece all hold Bachelor of Music degrees so a certain quality and professionalism can be assured - however please see and hear for yourself here, and read our Testimonials
  • We typically communicate via email for the initial booking and prep, then have a 'game plan' call with the B&G before the big day. Send us an enquiry for a quote and to get the ball rolling
